The Ellenbrook Senior Football Club is saddened to learn the recent passing of Brian Dillon.
Brian was an integral part of the Ellenbrook Community, helping to start the local Ellenbrook RSL Sub Branch, becoming the inaugural president. He, along with other RSL members, ran the local sundowners on a Friday evening. This was back when Ellenbrook consisted of a Deli, Video Store, Hairdressers and about 50+ houses. He helped make a safe and friendly place for family and friends to congregate and create a community bond. Brian coordinated the local dawn services on ANZAC day, which would be held at the Woodlake Amphitheatre.
Brian assisted the Eels on many fronts. He helped start our ANZAC memorial rounds back when we had a single team in the Hills Football Association, playing the last post on a bugle. Brian would often drive the team bus when we travelled to Yanchep and the like, which could become particularly rowdy after a road trip victory. A majority of the Eels from the early years will have fond memories and stories about Brian.
After Brian left Ellenbrook, he continued to serve the community, being a massive part of the Mandurah RSL. Brian was publicly thanked by the Honourable Andrew Hastie for his service to RSLWA and to his country.
The Eels will wear black arm bands this Saturday in honour of Brian. It is fitting that it coincides with our ANZAC memorial round, given how instrumental he was in the beginning.
Rest in Peace Brian Dillon. Our thoughts are with his wife, Rosemary, their children, their family and friends, and the community that Brian put so much time and effort towards.
