Posted on May 17th, 2012 No commentsSorry about last week lads been busy like everybody these day’s!!
Any way Ellenbrook travelled to Wyong reserve this weekend to take on a very confident Saints.Matty Craig and his colts soon put a stop to that confidents with a great team win.The colts played well from what I hear and never looked like taking a step back,so we can only imagine what they could offer if a few more of them trained. In any case it’s there first win for the year and I’m sure with the same performance they get a few more on the board.
12.30 it was the Reserves turn.I’m not sure what happen in the reserves game as I got there later than I normally would but you could tell something wasn’t right and that it was going to be a hard day at the office.Although the boy’s tried to rally around each other they just couldn’t get that spark they needed to get against the young saints who I think didn’t play better.Although the Eels didn’t get the points on the weekend I’m positive they will bounce back harder this weekend especaily with a few of the new guy’s ready to go this weekend.
Well it was time for the League side to get amongst the mud and fight for four points. This game was a strange game as well with niether side being able to kick away from the other.I thought we controlled the game a bit better but didn’t capitalise on our oppurtunities when we should of which resulted in turn overs.Although it was a good, sluggish game to win I reckon we can improve so much, and it’s only small things which will bring us together even more and in turn make us an even stronger, better side than what we are at the moment.
Keep the pressure on each other lads and DO NOT let any body just walk in and take your spot cause I know there are a few player’s ready to pounce on a oppertunitiy if given one in either side.
Go Eels!!!

2012 ELLENBROOK EELS PLAYER AUCTION.
Posted on May 15th, 2012 No commentsThe results for the player auction:

Total Prize Pool $2940.00
Winner takes home $1764.00
Club takes home $1176.00Eels Slither to 4 straight!!!!
Posted on May 9th, 2012 No commentsWho would have thought the Eels would be sitting 4 and 0 in both the League and Reserves after being promoted last year? Well that’s certainly the case after last weekends thrilling victory at home against Ballajura.
After easily accounting for East Fremantle in Round 1 the Eels have never looked back and things are really starting to take shape as Ellenbrook hope to win their first League Premiership.

After being challenged during the third quarter last weekend and having their backs against the wall the Eels showed real desire to beat off a full strength Ballajura eventually winning 12.9.81 to 9.11.65. Big Josh (Red) Satie stepped up and completely dominated the Ruck against his old club and he was well supported by the very slick and quick Eels midfield. Aaron (Pav) Innes again showed why he’s one of the most improved players in the club this year as he played his best game for the club and was awarded the B.O.G.
In the Reserve Grade game the Eels were playing for outright top spot and with a few players missing really showed they’re well and truly one of the teams to beat this year. It was great to see Eric Burgess returning for a knee injury to take out the B.O.G. award which helped the Eels claim a well fought victory winning 8.10.58 to 7.4.46.
The Colts showed they’re more than capable of matching it with some of the better sides and whilst the score didn’t really reflect the overall effort by the Eels they certainly made the top side earn every kick. With a few more numbers the Colts will grow to become a very competitive side so if anyone’s keen to come for a kick you’re more than welcome to. I’ve got no doubt a win is just around the corner.Off the field the club recently named their “Team of the Decade” which was a very special occasion for the Eels and congratulations to all the players named in the side. We hope to do this every 10 years which will allow us to recognize the achievements made by our past and present players. The team was as follows:
Forwards – Aaron Power - David Lincoln - Callan Schnaars
Half Forwards – Robert Schnaars - Troy Newick - Ryan Phillimore
Centre – Daniel Hamilton - Shane Henderson - Matthew Craig
Half Backs – Matthew Rutherford - Adam Watts - Eric Burgess
Full Backs – Ben Franks - Ashley Murphy (V.C) - Jason Bruce
Ruck – Vaughan Roberts – Paul Saylor (Capt) – Shea Jenkins (V.C)
Interchange – Justin Anderson - Adam Gericke - Jesse Manning - Andrew Ward
Coach – Matthew Hatch

Congratulations to everyone selected in the team.
Finally the club held its first Player auction and raised a massive $2900 on the night and a huge thanks must go to everyone who bought a player group and a special thanks must go to Grahame from Houston Homes for running the auction.
The Eels are in action this weekend against Saint Norberts so lets bring home 3 wins. Go Eels!!!!
Kind Regards

Posted on April 30th, 2012 No commentsWhat a wet weekend of footy for the Eels, you’d think being Eels we would love the wet NOT!!!
Any our colts got a side together which is great but could get the win,but I’m sure the wins will come.We may just have to go through some pain which will make you guy’s stronger.
Another win for Steve and his reserves although tough.Steve asked his boy’s for a big effort against Dianella on the weekend because for many years the Raiders reserve side have been the bench mark of the competition, but not this weekend thanks to a solid effort from the Eels and even bigger effort from Hiley who led the way with a best on ground performance.Well done boy’s!!!!
The league game was not a pretty game by far and for much of the day it was just scrappy and at times Dianella looked liked they wanted the win more than the Eels.I know we have a few players out at the moment but that’s no excuse and if we are going to be real contenders this year we need start being a little more protective of each other around the ball not just physically but much more vocal. All teams have off weeks and I’d like to think that’s what this game was for us rather than people getting to comfortable in the League side, I know there will be changes this weekend against Ballajura so train your guts out lads and be prepared for a physical game this weekend.
Thanks to Luke Hurley for stepping up into the League side straight after leading the reserves to a win.
Unlucky to the Masters on Sunday but like the colt’s the win will come!!!!

Captains Blog 24/4/2012
Posted on April 24th, 2012 No commentsThe 21st of April was a big day for the Ellenbrook football club firstly it was the traditional Anzac day game then later on the announcement of the Ellenbrook Team of the Decade.
Steve and his reserves started the day off with a big win over Brentwood.Great win lads.
After the RSL Anzac ceremony had finished it was time for the league to battle for 4 points against Brentwood. With three or four players out from the previous week the Ellenbrook boy’s knew they had to start well and keep the pressure on all day, Brentwood had come down to C3 from C2 so we knew they would be a good side and if given a sniff would challenge us for the points, but in true Anzac spirit the Eels stuck to the team plan and work for each other and came away with a good win.
Congratulations to Big Redon winning the Anzac Day Trophy for the most courageous player and number 19 from Brentwood.
Later in the evening the Ellenbrook Team of the decade was named and a big Congratulations to all the players selected in the team. I’m sure I can speak on behalf of all the player’s when I say what a great honour it is to be selected in the team of the Decade out of all the other great players that have worn the ellebrook jumper. To have been on the committee who had to select the side would of been so difficult I’m sure. And congratulations to Matt Hatch for being elected Coach of the Ellenbrook team of the decade.
Big thanks and Congratulations to every body who work so hard to make Saturday such a special day for the ellenbrook football club.

Posted on April 19th, 2012 No commentsFirstly I’d like to welcome all the players, families and past players to the Ellenbrook Senior football club.I would also like to congratulate the committee and the coaches for a successful preseason which I’m sure the players enjoyed even though at times the numbers were a bit low.
Ok it’s a few days late but better than not at all, Thanks to Matt Hatch and the club for voting me in to captain the Ellenbrook League team this is a position I’m honoured to have, so again thank you and Congratulations to Jessie and Burgo.
The eels started the year with 2 wins out of a possible 4 if you include Masters and altough the colts and masters lost I’m sure with a few players coming both teams will bounce back twice as hard.
Well down to all teams but now it’s time to refocus for this weeks ANZAC Day game, as we know games at times win or lose come at a cost and after the league it looks like we’ve been hit with a few injuries, so this is a good time for all players to put there hand up and be picked for the league side not only for the Anzac Day clash but to stay in the side for the whole season or at least make it hard for some one to come back in.Every club gets to test there depth and after round one it’s us so like I said boy’s put your hand and let’s go to war again this Saturday 21/4/2012.
Congrates to all the guy’s selected to lead there teams in 2012 and a big thanks to the Ladie’s for dinner Saturday night.

Ellenbrook Eels Team of the Decade.
Posted on April 11th, 2012 No commentsThe Ellenbrook Eels SFC will announce its “Team of the Decade - the first 10 years (2002-2011)” ” after the annual Ellenbrook RSL ANZAC Memorial match on Saturday the 21st April @ Coolamon Oval.
Over 12 months ago several long term serving members were appointed the task of putting together our first ever “Eels Team of the Decade” and whilst some very tough choices were made the club is ready to announce those who were selected for the prestigious accolade.
The Club hopes to do this every 10 years as it’s a great opportunity to acknowledge those who have served the club well and displayed the values on and off the field that the club prides itself on.
This day marks a special occasion for the Eels as we also host our annual Ellenbrook RSL ANZAC Memorial game against Brentwood-Booragoon and our club Sponsors day.
We pride ourselves on paying tribute to our soldiers lost whilst serving our great nation and those who are currently overseas on operation. Its been a club tradition since our first year and we are very thankful for the Ellenbrook community and the local Ellenbrook RSL for getting behind this special occasion.
We would like to extend an invite to everyone in the wider community of the Swan Valley and Ellenbrook surrounds to please join us in what promises to be an exciting day for our club.
If you have any questions regarding our football club please feel free to contact RonnIe Hobbs on 0439 335 700 or email president@ellenbrookeels.com.

Successful Pre-season by the Eels
Posted on April 10th, 2012 No commentsLast weekend, the Eels completed their pre-season training program with a trial game against Bassendean in all three grades. Whilst we didn’t come home with a win, we certainly showed several promising signs for round 1 on the day and just so you’re aware, Bassendean are a C-2 club so we couldn’t have been more impressed with the Eels overall performance.
The Colts showed several promising signs playing against last years C-2 Colts Grand Finalists with several players standing up to the challenge and Matty couldn’t have been happier with our first hit out. We could still do with a few more numbers in the Colts though so if anyone has a mate they’ll be more than welcome to come down for a kick.
The Reserve grade game was a little disappointing with several players not turning up, however those who did play did there very best against a side that has played finals footy for the past few years at a much higher grade. Thanks to Devo, who stepped up to coach in Burge’s absence and even though the boys lost, they never gave in. With everyone available for selection in round 1 I’m sure our ressies will get back to playing some great footy.
The League game was a cracker with the result going down to the wire. The Eels dominated the first quarter in general play but still trailed 0.4 to 2.1 after the first change. We hit the ground running in the second quarter kicking the first 2 goals and if it wasn’t for a late quarter lapse we would have been in front at half time. The second half saw the Eels lift to a new level as they started dominating all over the ground with the last quarter being our best. We finished full of run and our overall fitness started to show lat in the final term. In the end we went down by 2 points 7.15 to 9.5, but if you count Azz Powers goal which wasn’t allowed then we would have won. All in all I think we’ve stated 2012 on a very positive note.
Thanks to Tony Barber who umpired all day and he did a sensational job. He even stood up when he was flattened by Jesse in the League game. Just goes to show either Jesse’s bumps just aren’t what they’re cracked up to be or Tony is one tough cookie. With that said well done to all and I’m looking forward to Round 1.
The Masters had their first game of the season on the same day at Lightning Park and it was pleasing to see some new faces amongst the old boys. The masters are looking good in their 2nd season but would love to have more team mates to share the good times with. if you are 35+ and want to have a social kick then come down and get involved.
Kind Regards
Ronnie Hobbs

Masters Football alive in Ellenbrook
Posted on March 9th, 2012 No commentsThe Ellenbrook Eels are competing in their second season with the WA Masters Football Association (35 and older) and are very excited about a promising year ahead.
The Eels had an outstanding inaugural season last year under the guidance of first year masters coach, Adam McGrath and the playing group produced some outstanding results. This generated a great deal of interested throughout the whole Ellenbrook community with our supporter and playing numbers growing week after week.
The masters competition promotes a family Sunday carnival format holding games every 2nd weekend throughout the Perth Metro area. They play under a modified rules format, which allows the older guys to continue playing our great game of Australian Rules Football after they retire from the regular weekend action.
The Ellenbrook Eels will be holding a Masters meet and greet session down at Coolamon Oval “The Home of the Eels” on Thursday the 15th March @ 6.30pm. We would like to invite past and new players over the age of 35 to come down and join us in what promises to be an exciting year.
If you wish to be part for a dynamic team which promotes the enjoyable aspect of football then please contact Ronnie Hobbs on 0439 335 700. Remember you’re never too old to play this great game of ours.

Mark Breadsell, Paul Saylor and Adrian Hughes are just 3 of the Masters players of varying ages and ability that enjoy having a social kick every second Sunday.Ellenbrook Eels Media Release
